Grok review: what it actually is

Grok is a general-purpose conversational assistant, not an AI girlfriend app, and the TAAFT listing files it under productivity. The description reads Grok 4.7, a conversational AI for understanding the universe, which makes it a tool for questions, writing, research and general chat. The platform is Web. There are no listed pros or cons, and nothing in the data describes a companion persona, roleplay, memory of you or voice. It appears here next to companion apps, but nothing in its listing describes a companion. It suits people who want a capable assistant for everyday tasks and are happy to treat it as a tool. If you want a character that acts as a partner, the data gives no reason to choose it.

Grok's TAAFT listing has about 26,000 all-time views on There's An AI For That, ranking 74 of 98 on this site by those views, with 277 saves. Read that carefully: it counts visits to this one directory page, not use of the assistant, and our data holds no Semrush search volume for "grok". The figure says little about how widely Grok is used for the job it is built for. What it does show is that fewer people opened this listing than most listings in a directory of companion apps, which fits a product that is not one. For a buyer, the right measure of Grok is its ratings and price, below, not its listing views. Judge it on its own terms as an assistant.

TAAFT users rate Grok 4.0 out of 5 from 61 ratings. There are 36 five-star ratings, about 59 percent, 13 four-star, 3 three-star, no two-star and 9 one-star ratings, about 15 percent. That is a good score from a modest sample, with a small but definite group of unhappy users. The listing carries no pros or cons, so there is nothing user-reported about what works or what frustrates people, and no way to tell from our data why those 9 raters gave one star. Anything about accuracy, speed, privacy or how it handles sensitive topics is not covered by the data we track (the TAAFT listing and Semrush); the maker's own pages are the place to check. A 4.0 average is easy to read, but it comes with no explanation.

Grok is freemium, with paid options from $30 a month, billed monthly. The listing states the refund policy outright: no refunds. So a month you pay for is a month you keep, whatever you think of it, and the free tier is the only way to try before committing. What the free tier allows, and what the $30 plan adds, are not described. Anyone who wants a money-back guarantee should skip the paid plan, and so should anyone who wants a companion for a few dollars a month, since $30 is the entry price of the paid option listed. Heavy daily users of an AI assistant are the audience that price targets. The listing also links a privacy policy and terms, which are the documents to read before paying.

Sharp and speedy, delivers real value, just needs some polish.

Definitely has its own voice. It’s more casual, sometimes chaotic, but fun to use when you want quick and bold answers.

Verry good second place after Claude, good for human analythics beacause of X

Tested @Grok this week and it’s fast and very web aware. Pulled live context and links for current topics and the playful tone makes brainstorming fun. Still stumbles on longer step by step tasks and some code, but for quick fact checks and summaries inside X it’s super handy.

Grok FAQ

Is Grok free?

There is a free tier. TAAFT lists the pricing model as freemium, with paid options from $30 a month, billed monthly. The listing does not describe what the free tier includes, such as message limits, model access or features. Treat the free tier as the way to try Grok before paying, because the listing states no refunds on paid plans. Check the maker's current plan page for what free users get, since limits on an assistant like this can change. We did not test it.

How much does Grok cost?

The cheapest paid option on the TAAFT listing is $30 a month, billed monthly. No annual price or higher tier is listed. The listing also does not say what the paid plan adds over the free tier, so we cannot tell you what the money buys. It does state the refund policy: no refunds. That makes the entry price a committed month. Open the maker's plan page for current prices and features, and use the free tier first to see whether the assistant fits your work.

Is Grok an AI girlfriend app?

No. The TAAFT listing describes Grok as a conversational AI, version 4.7, and files it under productivity. There are no listed pros or cons, and nothing in the data covers a companion persona, roleplay, voice or memory of you. It appears in this directory's category, but if you want a partner-style character, it is the wrong kind of product. It suits people who want an assistant for questions, writing and research. Check the maker's pages for what the assistant actually does, since the data we track is thin.

Grok review: what do users rate it?

TAAFT users rate it 4.0 out of 5 from 61 ratings. About 59 percent are five-star and about 15 percent are one or two stars, with 9 ratings at a single star. The listing carries no pros or cons, so we cannot tell you what people praise or complain about. The score is a user rating on one directory with a modest sample, not our own review, and we did not test the assistant. Read recent feedback elsewhere to learn what the unhappy group disliked.

Can I get a refund or cancel Grok?

The TAAFT listing states the refund policy plainly: no refunds. So money paid for a month of the $30 plan should be treated as spent. Billing is monthly, so cancelling should stop the next charge, but the cancellation steps are not in our data. Look in your account settings and the maker's terms, cancel before the renewal date and keep your payment confirmation. Since there is no refund route, use the free tier to judge Grok before paying.

What should I look for in Grok alternatives?

First decide whether you want an assistant or a companion; Grok is an assistant, and companion apps are built differently. For an assistant, compare price, since $30 a month with no refunds is the baseline here, and check what the free tier allows. Its rating of 4.0 from 61 raters is a reasonable bar. The listing has no stated pros or cons, so look for alternatives whose users describe what works. If you want a companion with memory and a persona, look at the companion apps ranked on this page instead.
